Works of Repin is in touch with our region. He has repeatedly been to Samara. Ilya Repin first came here in 1870, during the work on the painting "Barge Haulers on the Volga". With Fyodor Vasilyev and Evgeny Makarov he stayed in the village Shiryaev Buerak, where a small "Volga landscape with boats" (1870) was written - with the image of Tsarev Burial mount. The time of creation of the historical painting "The Cossacks Writing a Letter to the Turkish Sultan" includes the work "On the trail" (1881), in which Repin portrayed Cossacks on Khortitsa Island, hunting down the enemy.
